topic Enhancing report with external source dataset in Data Hub

Hi there!

I'm building custom reports in HubSpot using datasets connected to Snowflake.

I need to use the dynamic "Me" filter (owner filter) on these custom datasets, but it's not working even though I've:
- Added an email column to my Snowflake source
- Connected it to the HubSpot Users table (source email → user email)

The "Me" filter still doesn't appear as an option in my reports.

Has anyone successfully implemented dynamic user filters on external datasets? What's the proper mapping/configuration needed?

Thanks for posting!

This community thread offers a workaround for your issue:

This idea post here helps you confirm the cause for your issue, which is a product limitation

I'd recommend upvoting it and adding your specific use case in the comments

Hey @JulienD8

Yeah this is a known limitation unfortunately. The dynamic "Me" filter only works on native HubSpot properties tied to the owner object, and external datasets connected through Snowflake dont get that treatment even when you map the email column to HubSpot Users. Victor's links confirm it's a product gap and the ideas post is worth upvoting for sure.

One workaround that might help depending on your setup: instead of relying on the "Me" filter, you could create a calculated property or a custom column in your dataset that flags records based on the current user's email, and then use a standard filter on that column. It's not as elegant but it gets you closer. The other option is to build the report in a BI tool like Metabase or Looker that sits on top of Snowflake directly, where dynamic user filtering is more straightforward, and then embed or link it from HubSpot.

On a broader note, the challenge you're hitting is pretty common when external data lives in Snowflake but needs to behave like native CRM data inside HubSpot. At Stacksync we help teams sync data between Snowflake and HubSpot in real time so the records actually live as native HubSpot objects, which means filters, owner assignments, and reporting all work as expected. Might be worth looking into if this keeps blocking your reporting workflow. Note This response was written based on my own experience and lightly reformatted with AI for clarity.

Good luck with it!

This is a really common issue with Snowflake → HubSpot datasets.

As mentioned, the “Me” filter only works when HubSpot recognizes a field as an actual HubSpot Owner property, not just when there’s an email column mapped to the Users table.

Some other suggestions like calculated properties might help as well.

Wanted to suggest an alternative approach if this continues to be a blocker.

If you can’t get dynamic user filters working cleanly in HubSpot datasets, another pattern is:

Pull the Snowflake + HubSpot data into Google Sheets using Coefficient (it's available on the HubSpot marketplace and Snowflake marketplace). It's also available in Excel, but the embed in HubSpot option I'll mention in a second won't work with Excel.

Use spreadsheet-level filtering by owner (including a dynamic “current user” parameter if needed)

Built the visualizations in spreadsheets - you can even use Coefficient's AI Sheets Assistant to help build for you.

Embed the live visualization back into HubSpot - on Dashboards (Add Content -> External Content -> Other Content)

This gives you much more flexibility, especially when working with external warehouse data. I do work at Coefficient so always happy to help!
